- Summary:
- This stunning book explores the relationship between the visual and performing arts that developed in Paris during the late 1880s and 1890s. All of the works featured were commissioned as designs for the covers and pages of theater programs for avant-garde plays of the time, including some written by Henrik Ibsen and Oscar Wilde.
- Renowned artists feature prominently throughout this book, including Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard and Edvard Munch. Many lesser-known artists are also included.
- The selection offers an extraordinary range of artistic styles, from realism to symbolism, as well as varied portrayals of the Parisian milieu, from politics and labor relations to family life and entertainment for the masses.
