Summary:
Fry was Provost Marshal General, United States War Department. Correspondence on the subject of a Memorial written by Lea, N. B. Browne, James H. Orne, and E. Spencer Miller to be presented to Congress concerning conscription during the Civil War. Includes seven items from Fry to Lea, five items from Lea to Fry; plus 6 letters from various people to Fry offering to sign the Memorial, the signatures on some of these letters are illegible, one is from George Whitney (8 December 1864), another from William D. Lewis (10 December 1864).
Also includes an official copy of a letter dated 2 March 1865 from E. D. Townsend to Col. A. Cummings and a letter from William B. Lane to Henry C. Lea, n.d. but received June 1865.
Also includes a printed copy of a letter from Fry to E. D. Townsenddated 13 February 1871, and two clippings.
