Summary:
Student's Atlas of American Presidential Elections 1789-1996 tells the story, graphically and in writing, of each of the 53 presidential elections in the history of the United States, in chronological order. In doing so, noted historian Fred L. Israel also examines the social, economic, and political development of the United States. Each election is presented as a snapshot of the times, from the very first election through the Civil War and two World Wars to the present. The text captures the essence of the election, giving information about the candidates, the issues, the campaign, and the election itself. The discussions are enhanced with color maps and tables providing electoral and popular vote by state. This book will help every reader, young or old, better understand the history of the United States and the process by which we elect our presidents.
