Dante's Paradiso is the poem of love and light--what Osip Mandelstam called a 'kinetic ballet, ' with 'every possible kind of luminous figure and dance'--and of optics, angelology, polemics, homiletics, prophecies, perplexities, resolutions, and recognition of the limits of human understanding.
