- Summary:
- Inspired by the highly successful Picture L.A., each of these publications contains images by a group of youths who photographed what they consider to be their city's distinctive landmarks. The images, in combination with quotes from the photographers, evoke ideas that challenge readers' conventional notions of landmarks and, at the same time, invite readers to consider how they are marked by the communities in which they live.
- Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is not only India's commercial center but also its most cosmopolitan city. The photographs capture the many faces of the city, from the overcrowded streets where privacy is a luxury, to the various activities along its extensive coastline.
- Each book contains a selection of black-and-white prints culled from hundreds taken during the course of the projects, along with short biographies and color images of each of the young photographers.
- Notes:
- "Published in conjunction with 'Picture Mumbai: landmarks of a new generation,' an exhibition organised by the Getty Conservation Institute in collaboration with the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India in Mumbai, which opened at the Museum on 20 January 1997"--T.p. verso.
