"'The Negro Church in America,' by E. Franklin Frazier (1894-1962), was first published in the United States in 1964 and has since seen nine printings in its hardcover and paperback editions. Deeming the significant events of the 1960s and 1970s important matter for appraisal in the light of Frazier's work, the publishers commissioned C. Eric Lincoln to write a second small volume, 'The Black Church Since Frazier'. Accordingly this new edition is published as two volumes in one, the text of each individual work retaining its own integrity and identity. In resetting 'The Negro Church in America' for this edition, minor changes in spelling and punctuation have been made to conform with American usage."--Title page verso.
