Summary:
Does David Still Play Before You? explores the ways in which modern Israeli poets have made use of images from the Bible in their poetry. Jacobson closely reads fifty poems, featured in their original Hebrew and in English translation, to reveal how Israeli poets are influenced by the presence of the Bible in contemporary Israeli culture. This collection of many of Israeli's prominent poetic voices is an important text in understanding both the influence of the Bible in the culture and written work in Israel today.
