- It all begins innocently enough, with Gretchen, a new bride, accompanying her husband Chuck to the reading of his estranged father's will. But soon what started out as an unpleasant duty turns into a journey of terror, and Gretchen must answer a series of questions that hold the keys to life or death: How well does she really know the man she has married? How much can she trust him? How far should she go to protect him? The local gossips are quick to fill in some of the gaps, relating tales of Chuck's wild youth, his confinement to a mental institution, the ill-gotten money supposedly hidden by his father in the family home - and the mysterious death that drove Chuck from the island so many years ago. Soothed after each revelation by Chuck's easy explanations, Gretchen continues to assure him of her love and loyalty. But then one final crime is revealed, propelling Gretchen and her daughter on a terrifying flight for their lives.
