- Summary:
- It was a group of Spanish emigre artists who came to Santo Domingo in the late 1930s and early 1940s, including Eugenio Granell and Jose Vela Zanetti, who first introduced modern art idioms to the Dominican Republic. In subsequent decades, the visual arts flowered in the Dominican Republic; indeed, it has long had a vital art scene, one that deserves greater recognition and study in the United States and internationally.
