- Summary:
- This atlas summarizes the scientific results of the TU Berlin based Sonderforschungsbereich 69, "Geoscientific Research in Arid and Semiarid Areas," a study spanning 15 years (1981-1995). It provides a condensed overview of the paleogeographic and paleotectonic evolution of NE Africa, the Arabian platform, and adjacent areas from the late Neoproterozoic to the near-present. The region presents an excellent example of the relationship between intraplate dynamic processes, dynamic patterns, and anorogenic magmatic activity throughout the Phanerozoic Eon. A set of 17 paleogreographic-paleotectonic maps, each supported by a global plate tectonic reconstruction of the related time slice, are presented in a clothbound portfolio, with a clothbound volume of explanatory notes.
