The collection includes important French empire furniture originally bought by British diplomat, Lord Stuart de Rothesay, British Ambassador in Paris during the Napoleonic wars. Also featured are furnishings, bronzes, paintings, prints and drawings, ceramics, books, textiles and Lady Abingdon's fine 20th-century jewelry.
- Introductory essays cover the history of the collection, followed by a study of Stuart and his methods of purchasing, using dealers in London and Paris. This provides important new material on the development of antique dealing. A catalogue of the furniture and furnishing bronzes includes illustrations of each item and of marks and labels.
