- This unique reference source presents nationwide surveys on patterns of leisure participation conducted in the following thirteen countries: Australia, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Spain and the United States. Despite survey differences in scope, methodology, scale and timing, a comparison of the surveys indicates marked similarities in leisure participation in industrial societies in the 'global village.' Among the activities discussed are some of the world's leading recreational pursuits including, watching television, reading, socializing with friends and family, sports, traveling and visiting museums and art galleries. Also examined are the methodological problems of conducting national leisure participation surveys and their future prospects.
