Summary:
"Employment Relations in the Asian Economies" analyzes the role of employment relations in the context of economic development in the key Asian economies of China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. In recent years, Worldwide interest in these economies has increased as they have become more open and export driven. Although much has been written on this region, few books have concentrated on the human resource aspect of its growth. The authors take the premise that the success of these countries is due to their low wages and suppression of workers' rights. Case examples test the hypothesis that unless a synergy is created between firm-level and state-level human resource policies, economic growth is unlikely to be sustainanble.
