Summary:
This book is the outgrowth of a research project attempting to identify the cultural characteristics of Roman Catholics in the Bible Belt South - the area from Virginia to eastern Texas and Oklahoma in which Catholics make up less than 4 percent of the population. The researchers wanted to know, How are these Catholics different from Catholics elsewhere in the United States? Does their expression of Catholicism have unique features? What must their clergy - who for the most part are not native to the region - learn about the culture in order to become effective ministers?
