Summary:
Describes the impact of the marijuana and cocaine trade on the society of Colombia, especially on its musical culture. Briefly describes traditional music such as cumbia, together with Indian music. Most of the attention is on vallenata music, a rocking blues which evolved out of the marijuana-growing regions. It is a hot, jumpy dance music which mixes accordians, electric bass, percussion and open-throated singing.
