- Part 1 contains the anonymous English prose translation of the French Brut d'Engleterre, which extends from the time of Albina and Brutus to the battle of Halidon hill in 1333; pt. II. contains the most important of the English continuations of the Brut, composed by various authors at different times, which extend to 1479.
- In the preface to part II, p. vi, a "third volume" to contain introduction and notes is promised. Not as yet published. An introductory study, however, appeared in German under title: Geschichte und quellen der mittelenglischen prosachronik The Brute of England: oder, The chronicles of England ... Marburg, 1905.
