Summary:

This book, despite its obscurity, is one of the most clever and humorous of novels published in late nineteenth-century America. Whether we label it a utopian novel, a sentimental romance, an astute satire of the limitations of late nineteenth-century genders roles and 'proper' spheres for women, or a feminist novel ahead of its time is inconsequential because the book is all of these things and more.
