Biography/History:

Located on the Monongahela River in Homestead, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. Homestead Steel Works was constructed in 1881. Andrew Carnegie bought the steel mill in 1883 and it became part of the Carnegie Steel Company. There were ongoing wage disputes with steelworkers and in 1892 workers went on strike. The strike was one of the most violent disputes in U.S. labor history. Homestead became part of U.S. Steel when Carnegie sold his company in 1906. Homestead Steel Works closed in 1986.

Summary:
