Autograph manuscript copy of the play Carlos V en Francia, by Lope de Vega, in the hand of the author. Signed by Lope de Vega and dated 20 November 1604, at Toledo (f. 61v).

Foliation: Paper, i (modern paper) + 68 + i (modern paper); 1-[18], [v], 1-17, [vi], 1-[18], [iv]; [1-68]; contemporary foliation in ink; modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto. In the contemporary foliation each act of the play is independently foliated. References in this record are to the modern foliation.
Script: Written in a cursive script in the hand of Lope de Vega. Notes in several other hands after the end of the play, some with dates and signatures (f. 62r-64r, 65v, 66v).
Decoration: Ink drawing of a face (f. 46v).
Binding: 19th-century brown gilt morocco with gold stamping. Inscription on front cover reads: "A Lord Howden. Recuerdo de antigua y constante amistad. Madrid, abril de 1858."
Origin: Written in Toledo on 20 November 1604 (f. 61v).
The paper is delicate and worn. The edges of most leaves are splitting and cracking.
