Summary:
Bound collection of private letters from John Shore Teignmouth, Governor General of India, to Henry Dundas, President of the Board of Commissioners for the Affairs of India, dated 10 January 1793 to 17 October 1798.
Also includes an Appendix consisting of copies made by Dundas of documents sent to him by Teignmouth, along with a few original documents and letters.
Notes:
Title taken from Dundas' manuscript title page (recto of first folio before p. 1).
Most of the letters were written from Bengal.
Many of the letters are written on paper that is smaller in dimensions than the volume itself. A few items are larger, and have been folded to fit.
Pagination and foliation: [4] ff.; pp. 1-307, [i]; [227] ff. The letters have been paginated by Dundas, after being arranged and bound into the volume. The appendix is unnumbered.
Binding: contemporary calf, with leather label on spine with the words: Governor General Sir John Shore, Jan. 1793 to Oct. 1798.
The entire volume is very fragile. The cover is crumbling, and much of the paper is brittle and cracked. The spine is coming off.
