Formerly attributed to Fernán Pérez de Guzmán, the Crónica is now generally considered a compilation from the works of several authors. For discussion of authorship cf. especially Dic. enc. hispano-americano, v. 16, p. 113-114; Fitzmaurice-Kelley. A new hist. of Spanish lit. 1926, p. 100-104. The Generaciones y semblanzas are by Fernán Pérez de Guzmán and were originally pub. as part of his Mar de istorias.

This edition was apparently designed as v. 1 of a series of chronicles. cf. p. 636, "Fin del primer tomo."
