- Biography/History:
- Truman G. Schnabel, Jr. graduated from Yale with a B.S. in 1940 and from the University of Pennsylvania with an M.D. in 1943. He joined the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania in 1954 and served as chief of the Penn Medical Service at the Philadelphia Veterans Administration Hospital from 1973 to 1977. He was elected president of the American College of Physicians in 1974.

- The interviewee traced the tradition in his family of practicing medicine before recalling his experience as a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, his service in the Army during WWII, and finally, his career as a faculty member at the University. In addition, he discussed his research interest in cardiology and such health care issues as the Medicare system.
