Biography/History:

Joseph T. Rowbottom, III graduated from the dental school of the University of Pennsylvania with a D.M.D. in 1970. His father, Joseph T., Jr., graduated from the University dental school in 1943. His grandfather, born 1890 and a 1913 Penn graduate in mechanical engineering, was the originator of the tradition among some Penn students of creating riots when they are taken by the fancy.

Summary:

This tape contains interviews of the University of Pennsylvania alumni who recalled their experiences on campus around the following four topics: 1. the origin of the Rowbottom story; 2. Rowbottoms (student riots peculiar to the students of the University of Pennsylvania) in the 30s; 3. Rowbottoms in the 40s and 50s; 4. Rowbottoms in the 60s.
