- Biography/History:
- Donald Shipley Murray graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics in 1937, an A.M. in 1940 and a doctorate in economic statistics in 1944. He served on the faculty of economic and social statistics of Penn from 1937 to 1980, as chairman of the department of statistics from 1963 to 1964. He also served as assistant chairman of the Department of South Asia Regional Studies from 1977 to 1980. His other responsibilities at the University included assistant to the President for federal relations (1964), director of the College of General Studies, and comptroller. He was a Board member of the National Association of Colleges and Universities Business Officers.

- The interview is a reminiscence by Donald Murray of his experience at the University of Pennsylvania from the days when he was a student. The interviewee covered such points as the old tradition for freshmen of the University, fraternity activities, his doctoral degree being the first awarded in statistics from Wharton School, and how he joined the faculty of Wharton.
