Biography/History:

Morris S. Viteles graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an A.B. in 1918, an M.A. in 1919, and a Ph.D. in 1921. He served on the faculty of the Department of psychology of the University from 1918 to 1968. He was appointed acting dean of the graduate school of education in 1963 and served as dean of that school from 1963 to 1968. He served as President of the International Association of Applied Psychology.

Summary:

The interviewee reviewed his long career at the University of Pennsylvania, first as a student and then as a faculty member. Among the points he discussed were why he chose the University, history of the department of psychology, the University campus in WWI, discrimination against Jews, the School of Education, graduate program in psychology, his term as dean of the graduate school of education, industrial psychology, and his work outside the University.
