Incipit: Ceci est le livre des cens et rentes dehus a noble home moss. It[h]ier Bonea chevalier seignor des Brousses tant en ble que en deniers. Et autres chousses es porroisses qui sansuyvent. Fait lan mil iii(c) iiii(xx) et quatre [the c is written above the iii, and the xx is written above the iiii] (f. 1r).
Collation: Parchment, i (modern paper) + 84 + i (modern paper); [i]², 1⁶(+2), 2¹⁰(+1), 3⁸(+1), 4-7¹⁰, 8⁸(+2), (+1), [iii]; [iv], 1-158, [vi]; 19th-century pagination in ink, upper outer corners; [ii], [1-82]; modern foliation in pencil, upper right recto. Folios 19 and 80-82 are later inserts. They do not contain text but appear to have been added at the time the manuscript was bound but before it was paginated.
Script: Written in a Gothic script.
Decoration: Rubricated, with paragraph markers and capitals stroked in red ink; simple red initials and some section headings decorated with grotesque faces (for example, f. 148v).
Binding: 18th-century[?] French[?] morocco over pasteboard, with 19th-century rebacking. Upper and lower covers each have 4 golden circular bosses decorated with quatrefoil. Center of upper cover has gold-stamped crown; center of lower cover has gold-stamped fleur-de-lis. Fleurs-de-lis stamped in gold on each corner of both covers and worked into the spine. Cover pulling away; front hinge completely detached; lower part of spine missing; flyleaves loose.
Origin: Written in France, Départment de Charante[?], in 1384.
Inside the front cover is a pasted-in note in French, dated 1889.
