Notes:
Though attributed by Evans to Ezra Gleason, this almanac is one of the Bickerstaff series generally regarded as the work of Benjamin West. Cf. Nichols, C.L. "Notes on the almanacs of Massachusetts." Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society, n.s. v. 22 (1912): 34-35, and the Dictionary of American biography. The eclipse notes and the notes on the calendar pages are identical, except for a slight variance in the calculations, with those in West's New England almanack, or Lady's and gentleman's diary, for 1777 (Providence : John Carter). The preface is signed: Isaac Bickerstaff.
Title vignette: portrait of John Hancock. Followed by 18 lines of verse "On the Hon. John Hancock, Esq. By a lady."
