- Summary:
- Copy of the words to the song "America" ("My Country, 'Tis of Thee), four verses, in the hand of its author, Samuel Francis Smith. The copy is dated 11 January 1895 by Smith, who notes that it was composed in 1832. The copy has been mounted on a board for display. Accompanied by a letter dated 18 June 1973 from Melvin C. Molstad, an Emeritus Professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Molstad indicates that the copy had belonged to his father-in-law, Charles W. Van Tuyl of Minneapolis. He offers it to the Historical Society "or to any other Society or Library that you would think appropriate."
