Summary:

Letter dated 26 November 1754 to Rev. Benjamin Kennicott. Also includes an undated, typed sheet explaining the context of the letter.

Mention is made in this letter of the "Sentiments" on which Richardson was working, and for which Kennicott was planning the preface. The work was published the following year as A Collection of the Moral and Instructive Sentiments, Maxims, Cautions, and Reflexions, contained in the Histories of Pamela, Clarissa, and Sir Charles Grandison (London: 1755).

This letter is not contained in The Correspondence of Samuel Richardson edited by Anna L. Barbauld (London: R. Phillips, 1804); but two earlier letters, one from Mr. Kennicott of 9 June 1754, with Richardson's reply of 15 July 1754, may be found in vol. 2, pp. 183-201 of Mrs. Barbauld's edition.
