Summary:
Consists of assorted papers concerning James Johnston's research into the life of Maj.-Gen. Arthur St. Clair. Includes various biographical notes about St. Clair; a letter dated 24 June 1876 from Johnston to an unidentified correspondent; and a newpapaper clipping dated 17 February 1874 concerning St. Clair's activities in western Pennsylvania before the Revolution.
Notes:
Major-General Arthur St. Clair served in the British army during the French and Indian War and then in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. He subsequently became governor of the North-western Territory, which was later incorporated into the United States as the states of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin.
