Summary:

Offering a new interpretation of the Mui'in al-Din from a historical perspective, this study defines the role of the Sufi mystics in Islam and disentangles the Mu'in of history from the legendary creation of later hagiographical chronicles. Currie appraises why the legend arose at all and took the form it assumed; describes the history of the shrine; and examines the customs and hierarchy of attendants that have grown up around it in the last five hundred years.
