- The theme of this book is one which had been relatively neglected in developmental psychology until this last decade, but since the late 1970s research on the topic of children's understanding of emotion has been considerable. Surprisingly, there has been no single volume pulling together the threads of how children, starting with infancy and extending into early adolescence. The present volume seeks to remedy this omission and, with that purpose in mind, we have gathered together individuals whose work has influenced how problems in children's understanding of emotion have been conceptualized.
